#RealLifeWonderWoman–Meet Lisa Harris

Today’s #RealLifeWonderWoman wears many hats. And gowns, and accessories, and shoes. She’s an author, poet, speaker and fashionista who has combined these passions to create a one-of-a-kind company called Fashion Meets Poetry.

KR:  Lisa, can you please tell us more about Fashion Meets Poetry?

LH:  Fashion Meets Poetry is a mission driven company based on the community platform of Beauty and Bravery. Our goal is to provide women a platform to be seen and heard by sharing personal stories of bravery. Our entertaining and inspiring events, plus social and online influences help create healing and empowering experiences for our audiences and help us fulfill our mission.

Our Mission: To create an empowering space for women to embrace the journey of life and the beauty of oneself through storytelling, knowledge and sisterhood.

KR:  Tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment.

LH:  My greatest joy will always be family and the laughter of my children. I couldn’t do what I do without them by my side. Although, when it’s just the world and I, I am most passionate about ‘curing’ the lonely, creating a space where women can be seen and heard, and making women feel beautiful. Beauty to me is in her heart and mind, her most powerful and authentic self, the place where she is unapologetically raw and real. My greatest dream is to provide women a ‘stage’ to heal themselves with the company of other women. It’s with the support of others, when we realize we already have wings to fly.

KR:  As women, we spend so much time caring for others. What do you do to care for you?

LH:  Like many women, I don’t carve out enough time for myself. It feels selfish. I have read enough articles and heard my fair share of speeches to know that it’s not, but it still feels that way. With that being said, I still have hopes of conquering this false mentality and making self-care a higher priority in my life. For now, I appreciate the stolen moments of solitude in my car in between shuffling kids from one activity to another and early mornings before the house stirs. This is real life. I wish this list was more substantial, but right now, this is me.

KR:  We all possess inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

LH:  I love superpowers and all things magical, perhaps that is why I love words so much… they have the power to make people fall in love, bridge our differences, heal the deepest wounds, feed our minds, change the world and inspire. As for my superpowers, I would have to say they are: loyalty, tenacity and humility.

KR:  Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

LH:  Having been raised in a long family lineage of women, it has been the collective of women who have inspired me, not just one. Perhaps, in some ways this is why I do the work I do to empower women. There have been so many women along the way who have shown me unconditional love at moments when I thought I was unlovable and in their own lives, they have demonstrated strength to endure in seemingly hopeless situations. From my dearest friends to my family to the many women I have met in the past few years, they all inspire me. Women are my muse. Perhaps I said it best in the introduction of my book, “With each story I heard, each article I read, and each woman I met, I fell in love. Yes, I fell in love with women, our raw and authentic vulnerabilities, our capacity to love, our ability to withstand hardship and heartache, and with the power of sisterhood, our strength to boldly persevere.”

KR:  Wonder Woman has super human strength and her Lasso of Truth. If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

LH:  Now we are talking super-human power… this is completely out of my element. After much thought, I’d have to say it would be to heal loneliness with just one touch. I believe loneliness leads to sadness and pain. How beautiful it would be to remove the darkness that overshadows so many of us from living life, hurting others and ourselves and feeling unloved. Yes, my super-human power would be to Heal Loneliness.

KR:  Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

LH:  I have always been an old soul. The words of wisdom I would give to my 20-year-old self are the same I would give to my 30-year-old self and today: moments are fleeting, live in the moments more. And equally as important, I would remind myself that forgiveness and self-love are essential in leading and living a more peaceful life. I am, just as we all are, learning and growing every day and hopefully putting into practice that which can free me.
