#RealLifeWonderWoman — Meet Katie Nall

Today’s #RealLifeWonderWoman wears many capes!

She’s an accidental wife (46 years this summer), proud mother of three kids (who still speak to her), delighted “Gummi” to the Four Adorables (granddaughters!), professional speaker (member of the National Speaker Association), mathematician (yes, as in Ph.D.), and Certified Practitioner in Emotional Freedom Technique (a.k.a. tapping).

And did I mention that she is fun? Easy to talk to? Loves to make people laugh? It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to real-life Wonder Woman…Dr. Katie Nall!

KR: Hi Katie! Will you please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment?

KN: A quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson sums my joy and fulfillment best: “What is success? To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch Or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”

KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

KN: An inner superpower? Hmmm…I would guess my inner superpower would be my quirky sense of humor and creativity. I love to find solutions to difficulties. And if we can laugh throughout the difficulties all the better.

KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

KN: There are many influential women throughout my life. As a young programmer, I was in awe of Rear Admiral Grace Hooper, Retired. She was a mathematician and served in the Navy. Within her life, she was noted to be the designer of the most common programming language at the time: COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language). It was an honor to hear her speak in person, to shake her hand and to discover we shared the same birth date: December 9. Later in life, I have been inspired by women who survive every day: mothers (like mine); sisters (like mine); and my daughter – women who wake up and get through another day.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

KN: My first answer to this question was: “The ability to instantly have a clean house at all times.” But it seems like I should have a bigger goal, doesn’t it? This question feels like three wishes from the stroking the magic lantern – I don’t want to miss something! Ok – got it. My one super-human power would be to have any super-human power anytime I wanted! Ta-dah! (Is that the right answer?)

KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

KN: At this stage of my life, “If it ain’t fun, I ain’t doin’ it”. So, getting up in the morning is fun, exercising is fun, work is fun, tapping is terrific fun, people are fun, reading interesting books is fun, learning new ideas is lots of fun, being with my family is delightful – especially the four adorables (granddaughters ages 2 through 6), hanging out with my husband so I can play tricks on him is fun. It is all a blast!

KR: You may have noticed Katie mentioned tapping is terrific fun. Yes, tapping. Katie is a Certified Practitioner in Emotional Freedom Technique – also known as tapping.

KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

KN: “It’s all good.”
