#RealLifeWonderWoman–Meet Crystal Nutt

When I first sat down for lunch with today’s #RealLifeWonderWoman, I quickly realized we had a lot in common. We were both born and raised in rural, southern Minnesota, and have an appreciation for livestock, farmers and small town living.

We also have a shared love of writing–for business and for pleasure. Crystal, a gifted writer, applies her talents as a grants and communications consultant and as a regular blogger and contributor to several regional publications.

This mom of three brings a calm, thoughtful demeanor and a sense of empathy and acceptance to those she meets. And I am delighted to introduce you to her today.

Please meet Crystal Nutt…a real-life Wonder Woman!

KR: Please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment.

CN: I am joyful and fulfilled when I am spending quality time connecting with my close circle of family and friends. I’m blessed to have several exceptional people in my life; my husband and three kids top the list!

In my career, I am joyful and fulfilled when I have the opportunity to apply my skills and strengths to positively impact people. I’m grateful that I get to use my gifts as a writer and communicator to empower nonprofits and give a voice to people and places. Connection, community and stories; these things are at the heart of what I do. Working as a consultant and writer is a dream come true!

I’m passionate about empowering people to be their best. Partnering with a nonprofit mission that supports people as they overcome any number of life’s obstacles gives me great joy. I was fortunate to have several people in my life who did this for me (family, athletic coaches, friends, pastors, etc.). It’s an honor to play even a small part in someone else’s story.

KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

CN: Others often compliment my ability to remain calm and level-headed, particularly in stressful and chaotic situations. I’m also regularly approached by others seeking practical wisdom and insight, and I am compassionate for hurting people, empathizing with their pain.

KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

CN: My Grandma Opal was a very influential woman in my life. She inspired me by being someone I could identify with and loving me unconditionally. Growing up, I was with her on my grandparents’ dairy farm about as much as I was at my own house. She spent time with me, supported me and taught me things like how to make ginger snap cookies. We had a very special bond. I was able to identify with my grandma so easily because our personalities were similar. In fact, some people call me “Little Opal.” She was a go-getter, adventurous, spirited and very caring.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

CN: Endless energy. I have a high-energy thirst for life but unfortunately don’t have high-energy genes. Juggling being a wife, mom and business owner wears me out.

KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

CN: I love having fun — sharing and catching up with family and friends, laughing! My hobbies include hiking, canoeing, biking, snowshoeing, camping, being in or near water, watching volleyball, softball, baseball and hockey, reading nonfiction, listening to live music, watching a live comedy show, watching television and movies (inspirational true story or comedy preferred), cooking, eating, traveling and meeting new people.

KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

CN: Oh boy. Focus on your values and the desires placed on your heart and tune out the rest, all of it!
