#RealLifeWonderWoman — Meet Chloe Bratvold

I went to visit our daughter Brooke a few weeks ago. She lives and works in Des Moines, Iowa. Brooke had been telling me about a candle bar she and some coworkers had visited and how the owner was an energetic, young, female entrepreneur who followed her dream of opening Candle Bar DSM in the hip and historic Valley Junction of West Des Moines.

I’d never heard of a candle bar. So off we went on a mother-daughter candle-making experience. We arrived in the midst of a snow storm and were greeted by blissful fragrances and warm welcomes as walked into the beautifully appointed shop.

One of the women who greeted us was the owner herself. Chloe was born and raised in Iowa, and at age 26 owns a thriving candle-making business. As an entrepreneur myself, I know the energy, passion, creativity, and work that it takes to develop an idea from concept to reality. I was wowed by her commitment to quality and her understanding of the customer experience. Details matter! And when it comes to her business, Chloe is a detail gal. She’s also this week’s #RealLifeWonderWoman. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Chloe Bratvold!

KR: Would you please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment?

CB: My work at Candle Bar DSM brings me more fulfillment then I ever thought was possible. When I was working in my corporate role, I was always tired. I actually thought I was ill! I was very wrong – I wasn’t doing something that I truly believed in.

KR: I believe we all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

CB: I feel I always try to see the positives in every situation. I am outgoing, highly sarcastic and love to have fun!

KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

CB: My mother-in-law is a true inspiration! Not only she did raise my now husband but she also is an entrepreneur who made a life for herself all on her own.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

CB: I think it would be super human speed. It seems like I never have enough time in the day to be all that I want to be.

KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

CB: I love to frequent all the awesome restaurants and coffee shops we have in Des Moines! My husband and I also enjoy playing tennis and golf when we can.

KR: I am with you on the awesome food and coffee scene in Des Moines. So many delicious choices. I have one more question for you. Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

CB: Don’t give up! There will be negative opinions no matter what it is you decide to do!
