#RealLifeWonderWoman — Meet Avalon George

When I first met today’s #RealLifeWonderWoman, she was wearing a pink tutu. She was five years-old. She was precious. She loved to dance. And what I didn’t know at the time, was that little Avalon was living with Cystic Fibrosis.

While CF is a part of Avalon’s life, it does not define her. She’s a strong, vibrant woman–and a brand new bride! She loves BIG and cares deeply. She keeps it real and doesn’t sweat the small stuff. Avalon is living life to the fullest!

Meet Avalon George, a real-life Wonder Woman!

KR: Hi Avalon! Would you please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment?

AG: Time with my people – game night with my family, dinner and a movie with my husband, or a brewery with friends. It doesn’t matter where we are, I feel most filled up connecting with my loved ones and having those real-life conversations.

Connecting with the Cystic Fibrosis Community – At one month old, I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. I continue to live with this disease and I am hopeful that there will one day be a cure! Cystic Fibrosis is a disease that affects the cells that produce mucus. This affects the respiratory and digestive systems. I may look like a normal girl, but much of my life involves managing my disease, treatments, and having my life flipped upside down by infections and fluctuating states of my health.

If there are two things this disease has taught me it is this: Everyone is fighting their own battle, even if it doesn’t look like it and each breath is precious because this life is unpredictable. I love any chance I can get to educate others on CF or connect with individuals and families facing CF. If we don’t talk about our battles, we can easily feel alone. I share my story so that I can encourage others and so that I can also be encouraged. I continue to dream about how I can do this throughout my life.

KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

AG: Being a question asker – through my own experiences I have come to see that as human beings, we are all fighting our own battle in some way. I am not a big fan of small talk. I want to know how you TRULY are. I want to give people a space to at least have an opportunity to talk, whether it be about their latest TV show binge or a hard season they are walking in.

KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

AG: My mom – she is best cheerleader. She is the kind of woman that will continue to show up, encourage, and cheer from the sidelines…even in the rain. She lives life to the fullest – always creating adventures, encouraging dreams, and loving on others in big ways! She is my guiding light, always bringing me to what really matters in times of anxiety or stress.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

AG: Tele-portation. I would love to not have to commute to work! Also, I have many travel destinations on my bucket list. A quick trip to Greece for the weekend?! I AM SO IN!

KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

AG: Shopping and Decorating – I love to simply browse or get ideas for decor! I love to make my home feel personal and cozy. As a homebody – this is very important to me!

Reading, crafts, musical theater- I love the chance to lose myself in something creative!

And now, my outdoorsy husband is helping me explore new things! We enjoy hiking and traveling together.

KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 14-year-old self?

AG: Don’t grow quiet or fade into the background simply because you are afraid of what people may think of what you have to say and who you truly are.
