#RealLifeWonderWoman — Meet Ashley Johnson

Welcome to #WonderWomanWednesday!

Today you get to meet #RealLifeWonderWoman Ashley Johnson, a self-proclaimed “small town girl” who is a wife and mom to four children. Family is a huge priority in her life. She savors time with her kids (most days!) and keeps plenty busy with all of their varying activities. In addition, she’s from a close-knit family who supports one another through the ups and downs of life.

Speaking of support, Ashley is one of those people you meet who leaves you feeling better for it. She has an energy–one I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s a powerful blend of enthusiasm and determination, with a little humor sprinkled in. Her friends describe her as the “energizer bunny” and a “positive influence on everybody!”

What’s her secret? Does she have superpowers?

Read on and get to know Ashley!

KR: Hi Ashley! Will you please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment?

AJ: It’s hard to put my finger on one thing that brings me joy and fulfillment, I think that’s why I follow so many of my passions through different jobs. Growing up, people always asked what my dad did, and I never quite knew how to answer. He always had his hands in quite a few projects, and I guess I followed in his lead.

One thing that does really drive me is creating opportunities for growth for others. I grew up with a very supportive family, I understand not everyone is blessed with the same opportunities I have had. I want to share that with others. Most of my side gigs include exposing at least one other person to something they maybe didn’t think they could do. It’s an incredible feeling watching those people grow in confidence and ability.

KR: What are some of the jobs or side gigs that you are involved in?

AJ: I stay pretty busy with several part-time gigs, all of which I’m passionate about, and fulfill me in very different ways. Boutique Owner, Non-Medical Home Care Business Owner, Substitute Teacher, Parent Support Specialist with NACAC (North American Council on Adoptable Children) and Fitness Instructor.

KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?

AJ: I’m very peppy! I have often been called a cheerleader. I love to cheer people on and help people see their best selves. I’m a pretty good multitasker, with all my kiddos and activities, I have to be.

KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?

AJ: My mom was a superhero. When I was in grade school, she was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis, which caused declining health for years. My senior year, she stopped working because she no longer could. She never complained. She became home bound and still found joy in her life. I was honored to be able to help her with her daily living until her death this March. She loved fiercely and always found a way to see the positive in every situation.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?

AJ: To create more time. Our children were all adopted. Most parents get 18 summers with their kiddos before they go off on their own, we had quite a few less with our kiddos. I wish we had more time, our oldest will be a Junior this year, and I can’t believe it. It seems that time goes so fast, I wish I could slow it down.

KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?

AJ: Listening to music has always been my favorite pastime. Pop2K and 90’s on 9 are my “go-tos”. It’s amazing how music can take you to another time and place. I also love to sing. I love traveling and I’m currently on track to eat a hot dog in each of the lower 48 states before our oldest daughter graduates high school.

KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

AJ: Never say never!! I always thought you had to pick a path and stick to it. There are so many things I wouldn’t have thought I would do, or have interest in. Walking out of my last final at college I said I’m never going back to school, a few years later I surprised myself and family when I went back to school to get my Master’s Degree. I guess you never really know what you’re capable of until you try.
