Happy #WonderWomanWednesday, Friends!
Today’s real life Wonder Woman may not be able to run at the speed of light or fly an invisible jet, but she she’s got some amazing superpowers. I’ve seen her run impressive events and fly over professional hurdles. I’ve watched her activate the superpowers of perspective and priority as she navigates work-life harmony as a mom of a toddler AND as a professional communications manager for Saint Benedict’s Monastery. I’ve seen her empower others through her interactions and words.
Amanda lives in Buckman, Minn., with her husband Austin, almost-two-year-old daughter, Arianna, and three-year-old yellow lab, Nova. They have another bundle of joy on the way who is due on August 5, which also happens to be Arianna’s birthday! These are exciting times for this growing family.
KR: Please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment.
AH: My family and traveling are my greatest joys. My husband and I have been married almost four years, and we are the parents of the most beautiful, kind-hearted, goofy daughter (who will turn two on August 5) and parents-to-be of a beautiful little baby (who is due to make his/her arrival on August 5). These past two years have been the best of my life! It is an absolute joy to watch Arianna grow, develop, learn, and show off that little personality. Being her mom is a treasure!
I also love to travel. If time and money weren’t an issue, I’d travel as much as I could. Whenever it’s time to share “one fun fact about myself,” I always say, “I’ve been to all 50 states.” It was my parents’ goal to get my sister and me to all 50 states before we turned 18–and we did it! I’ve also been to Europe twice, Central and South America, and the Caribbean multiple times. I’ve paraglided in Switzerland, got engaged in Paris, and gone ziplining in the Costa Rican jungle. I’m blessed!
KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?
AH: I consider myself to be kind, loving, adventurous, compassionate, appreciative, and laidback.
KR: Can you tell us about an influential woman in your life and how she inspired you?
AH: My mom has always inspired me through her love, humor, and ability to unapologetically be herself. We’ve always been close and continue to grow closer. Now that I’m a mother myself, I’m understanding more and more that everything she did was for my sister and me. Even now in my late 20s, my mom continues to love and care for me unconditionally. Whenever she comes to visit, you can bet that she’s not leaving without making sure my house is clean, my pantry is stocked, and my heart is full. She always puts others first, and she inspires me to show my love and appreciation for others.
KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?
AH: I would love to be able to teleport. That way, the time, money, and effort it takes to travel would never be an issue! I could soak up the beauty of somewhere tropical over my lunch hour and still make it back for the next meeting or appointment.
Amanda is featured in the current issue of Minnesota Family Magazine (page 43). CLICK HERE to read her thoughts on parenting and pregnancy.
KR: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies?
AH: I love having game nights with my family and friends–card games, board games, we love them all! I also enjoy soaking up the sunshine on the patio, going for walks, playing with my daughter and puppy (she’s three but she’ll always be my puppy), listening to true crime podcasts, and trying out new restaurants or coffee shops.
KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?
AH: At 28, it sometimes feels like I couldn’t possibly have enough wisdom or experience to share with my 20-year-old self, but in reality, I’ve learned a lot between then and now, and I’m a completely different version of myself. I’d tell myself to RELAX and have faith that everything will work out how it’s supposed to. Stressing about a situation will never make it easier, and you can’t stress your way into manipulating an outcome to come out in your favor. Relax, breathe, and trust that things will be fine, even when it isn’t the outcome you want. If you ask my husband, I’m still figuring out how to do this LOL!
