Real Life Wonder Woman — Meet Dr. Docia Hogan

Nurturing relationships and not sweating the “small stuff” are two ways today’s Real Life Wonder Woman pushes through challenges and tough times. And a little ice cream helps, too!

Meet Dr. Docia Hogan, Dentist and Owner of dh Dental Care in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

KR: Please tell us about what brings you joy and fulfillment.
DH: As a young high school woman, I knew 3 things:  I loved science, and learning about the human body, and I was intrigued with people and their personal stories. Dentistry helps me combine all of these passions every day. The unexpected part of my job that I love so much is the personal connections that I am privileged to have with my patients. They become a part of what we call our “dental family.”

KR: We all have inner superpowers. What are some of yours?
DH: My husband teases me that I am “hardened.” (No, really, like he used that as a pick up line!) Seriously, though–I think that this is from my experience as a Captain in the US Army. I served four years on active duty at Fort Riley, Kansas. In the Army, you find out real fast that change is constant. So, I tend not to sweat the “small stuff” and can keep most things in perspective. I strive to keep forward momentum even in the hardest of times. Now is the perfect example. We are living in an unprecedented time during the COVID-19 pandemic. My business is temporarily closed. And, yet, I know that this is all going to bring us to a better place in the end. I continue to reach out to my team, reassuring them that we are in “this” together. I remind them that we need to take on our challenges one day at a time. We are now preparing and planning for our new normal when we return – because we will return to dentistry, it is only a matter of patience and keeping our vision strong.

KR: If you could have one super-human power, what would it be?
DH: I wish I could remember everyone’s name the first time I met them! I think using someone’s name creates a stronger connection and value to each relationship. I try to remember one unique thing about everyone I meet!

KR: Knowing what you know at this stage of your life, what words of wisdom would you give to your 20-year-old self?

DH: I would tell that young, boisterous, and spirited lady – Use your voice with authentic intention and ice cream is not one of the major food groups!

Be the reason somebody smiles today!

  1. Docia Hogan is indeed a real life Wonder Woman! When her business closed because of COVID-19 she looked around to see what she could do to help others. She donated much needed surgical masks, gloves and essential supplies to Quiet Oaks Hospice House! Thank you Docia for making something good come from all this!
