I’m thrilled to announce Radi to Write has just won the lottery—the intern lottery, that is. We’ve now got six talented college students sharing their skills while learning more about public relations, marketing and book publishing.
How did this BIG WIN happen, you ask? Some might call it luck. Others may say timing. I call it divine intervention. Here’s how it happened: In September, I was asked to participate on a panel for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Toolkit for College Night where a group of us answered parent and student questions about preparing for college. Sitting on the panel with me were admissions counselors, a financial aid expert, a high school counselor and two current college students.
Sabrina, one of the student panelists, approached me after the discussion and asked about my book, Out to Sea: A Parents’ Survival Guide to the Freshman Voyage. She was most interested in the marketing and pubic relations aspects of promoting a new book. She explained that she was the vice president of the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University Marketing Club and the club was looking for real-world work experience. She then asked if I’d consider taking on some college interns.
That chance meeting with a delightful, energetic, articulate college senior gave me goosebumps! I had never thought about adding interns until that moment, but right then I knew it was something I had to consider. What could be a better, more appropriate fit for a book designed to help parents of college students empower their students for success than to work with a group of actual college students?
I told her I had to think about it as I wanted to make sure I could provide a quality, hands-on work experience for these students. I slept on it and prayed over it for the weekend and then called her back with a great big YES!
The rest, as they say, is history. I now have six of the brightest minds at St. Ben’s and St. John’s working with me. It is my honor and privilege to introduce you to Sabrina, Brooke, Gabrielle, Adam, Dan and Shaelee. What an amazing crew!
Because these students are so special to me, I want to share a little bit about them with you. We’ll feature them individually in upcoming posts so you can get to know them and see why I feel like I won the intern lottery!
Feeling lucky and blessed,
